Job Overview:
The Forensic Computer Analysis Manager is responsible for leading and managing the forensic computer analysis team within the Law and Criminal Justice > Forensic Science department. This role involves overseeing the examination and analysis of digital evidence and the effective utilization of forensic tools and techniques to support criminal investigations and legal proceedings. The Forensic Computer Analysis Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely forensic analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage the forensic computer analysis team, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality work output.
2. Oversee the examination and analysis of digital evidence, including computers, mobile devices, storage media, and network systems.
3. Utilize a variety of forensic tools and techniques to extract, preserve, and analyze digital evidence in a legally defensible manner.
4. Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, legal teams, and internal stakeholders to gather requirements and provide expert guidance on forensic analysis.
5. Develop and implement standardized procedures and best practices for evidence handling, data acquisition, analysis, and reporting.
6. Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and legal developments in forensic computer analysis, and evaluate their potential impact on the department's operations.
7. Ensure compliance with relevant legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements, maintaining the integrity of evidence and adhering to chain of custody protocols.
8. Prepare detailed reports, including findings, methodologies, and conclusions, and present them in a clear and concise manner to stakeholders and in legal proceedings when required.
9. Assist in the preparation and presentation of expert testimony in court as a subject matter expert in forensic computer analysis.
10. Manage and maintain forensic analysis tools, software, and hardware, ensuring their proper functioning and availability.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
2. Proven experience of at least 5 years in digital forensic analysis, with a focus on computers and related technologies.
3. Strong knowledge of forensic computer analysis methodologies, tools, and practices.
4. In-depth understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, file systems, and network protocols.
5. Proficiency in using industry-standard forensic software and tools, such as EnCase, FTK, Cellebrite, and X-Ways.
6. Familiarity with digital forensics for mobile devices, cloud storage, social media platforms, and other emerging technologies.
7. Deep understanding of legal and ethical considerations related to digital evidence handling and analysis.
8. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and apply logical reasoning.
9. Strong attention to detail and ability to work meticulously to ensure accurate and reliable results.
10. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
11. Strong leadership and team management abilities, with proven experience in supervising and mentoring a team of forensic analysts.
12. Professional certifications in digital forensics, such as CFCE, EnCE, or CCE, are highly desirable.
